So you want to stop receiving mail from Dish Network?

Occasional junk mail can be a minor annoyance, but when you receive 1-2 letters a week from a service provider, it’s ridiculous and wasteful.

This was my case with Dish Network.  I previously had – and canceled – their service at an old address, but the disease that is Dish promotional mail followed me to my new address.  This meant that I would receive 1 or 2 pieces of mail a week from Dish, trying to get me back as a customer.  As much as I love sky-high television content prices, I decided to attempt to get out of this junk mail hell.

I attempted to do this using the live chat on the Dish Network website – http://www.dish.com/chat/.  Gwendolyn from the new customer section said she didn’t have access to that type of information, but would be happy to talk to me, FOR FREE, about Dish Network products.  I thanked Gwen for her time and disconnected.  I tried again with another rep and shortly into a similar conversation they said, “We have a lot of new offers for a new customer.”

Sigh.

Alright, so then I figured I’d give the customer service chat a shot.  I didn’t have an account number any longer and I didn’t want to give them my phone number in fear they’d take this as some attempt to reinstate my service, so I just put in some gibberish and connected.  I was connected to a representative named, wait for it, Apple Joy.  Apple Joy wasn’t able to help me out either, but offered to transfer me to her supervisor, Noel.  Noel wanted to confirm that I didn’t want to receive mail at my old address anymore.  I don’t live at my old address anymore, so no, that’s not going to work out so well.  I corrected Noel and he confirmed that I would not receive mail at my new address.  Eureka!

Now I wait and see if I get any further mailings.

So, in short:

Go to http://www.dish.com/chat/ and click on customer service.  Fill in your name and for the account/phone number put something bogus in (2125551212, for example).  Ask the representative nicely that you would like to stop receiving mail to your address.  If they’re unable to help you, request to be transferred to a supervisor.

  1. I asked customer service on phone to stop receiving Dish mail – they agreed to take me off list – but I still get the 1-2 pieces of Dish mail a week which is extremely annoying.

Did the chat with cust service work for you?

    • Hi Patricia,

Unfortunately, it seemed to work for a while, but I’m back to getting 1-2 pieces of Dish Network mail per week. It’s really ridiculous and I’m not sure what else I can do besides just immediately throwing the mail in the recycle bin.

  3. You can apply for a prohibitory order from the USPS, but so far I suspect they’re dragging their feet actually issuing them. I’ve applied numerous times but have yet to receive one. Dish is a tremendous source of revenue for the USPS.

  6. Go to DISH website. Very Bottom of the page where various resources are available find “Service Agreements”. Scroll to bottom and find “Our Do Not Mail Policy”, submit info as required.

  8. I just tried the link to be removed off the list by clicking on their service agreement link at the bottom of the home page and then scrolling to the bottom where you click on “Our Do Not Mail Policy” and a red type message popped up saying “oops! System actively refused request.” I do not know why they harass people. I have not ever had their service. They can get sued BIG TIME! I’ve seen a bigger company get sued over stuff like this before.

  9. Thanks, everyone! This was helpful! Update – their “Do Not Mail Policy” is now tucked away on their “Service Agreements” page, here: https://www.dish.com/service-agreements/

And although I did get a “Your Mail Address has been added to Dish Network’s Internal Do Not Mail List.” confirmation message when I filled out that form, it is interesting to note that that form did not allow me to enter my full address on either line, which isn’t even that long. It only allowed me to enter 20 characters, including spaces, so I had to leave the “ike” off of the “Pike” for the street I live on. I put the “ike” on the 2nd address line…maybe they’ll figure that out. Maybe it won’t work at all. But I tried it anyway. I’ll update this if I keep getting their garbage “after 60 days”.

  10. Just got off chat with a Dish rep. She said to write “RETURN TO SENDER” on envelope. When they receive the mail back, the address will be taken off.

  12. I talked with Dish’s Fraud Line (866-310-8057) a little while ago. They said that they would do the paperwork to get us off the list. (We’ll see.) I also have just filled out the Direct Marketers Association form (https://www.dmachoice.org/prefill_mailin_registration.php) and will mail it in the morning. This is supposed to get us off many lists. There is more information at the FTC site at https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0262-stopping-unsolicited-mail-phone-calls-and-email

  13. Chat customer service at Dish network said call 888-309-0370. That is the Dish network Fraud Team, they are the ones who can cancel situations like preventing future contacts, or opt out of junk mail.
